8 Best Laptop For Video Editing in 2017 in Different Price Ranges

New year 2017 is here and people are already thinking about what is going to be different in  2017. For professional people like you and me, a good tool to facilitate our work throughout the year and beyond will be a good change. This article will help you choose the best laptop for video editing works.

What makes a good video editing laptop?

Before actually taking a decision, let us have a look at what qualities are to be considered when choosing a laptop for video editing:

1. Processor

For video editors, processor plays an important  role. It is even more important than a graphic card as graphic editing software are memory intensive. You might often have to keep several applications running simultaneously to work effectively. This demands high-speed processors with a lot of threads. Intel core i5 or greater processors are always recommended for latest graphic editing standards if you have the budget.

2. RAM

Sometimes you may overcommit yourself to the processor but limit yourself for RAM requirements. While you are editing videos, your computer creates lots of temporary files and these files are stored in RAM. The greater the RAM, easier and faster it is for your computer to fetch and work on them. Professionals recommend no less than 8 GB RAM but if you can’t afford it right away, you can upgrade it later as most of the laptops have this provision.

3. Graphic Card

A graphic card transitions a footage from data into pixels. Now if you have a fast graphic card, your life as a video editor is going to be easy. To choose a graphic card, you should look at the ones recommended by the software you use most.

4. Storage

While choosing the best laptop for video editing, you should always keep under consideration the speed and size of your storage. HDDs are slower when it comes to data transactions therefore, SSDs are recommended. Try to get yourself a 500 GB or greater SSD to stay out of storage pain.

5. Thumb Rule

The rule of thumb to select the best video editing laptop is to always look at what are the system requirements of the most demanding software you are using and get a laptop for that.

Let us have a look at some recommendations starting from the most expensive to cheaper laptops for video editing.

  1. Hello Nabeel,

    Excellent post.

You provide a lot of great information to help users focus on just what they should be thinking about when purchasing a laptop for video editing. Like when you say that the type of processor on your laptop is even more important than the graphics card. (We also like the way you organize information from least to most important. And the way you organize the review from most to least expensive.)

Looking at the system requirements of the most demanding software you use to help you decide what laptop is best for your needs is guru level advice that can be applied to any laptop that is going to be purchased for special use.

Most laptops allow you to upgrade the RAM. Surprisingly, there are still some that don’t. You don’t have to purchase a laptop with the most amount of RAM right off the bat if cost is an issue. Just start off with the minimum requirements for the tasks you perform. Reason being the more RAM you buy with your laptop, the more expensive the laptop will be. Which stresses the importance of making sure you buy a laptop that has up-gradable RAM.
